Did you know that historically the Lake County Republican Party in Florida hasn’t always been dominated by a Republican majority? In the early 1990s, Ron Phillips, the son of lifelong GOP activist Georgia Phillips, took up his mother’s mantle and launched an effort to systematically remove all local elected officials who were registered Democrats. One by one, he defeated them, ultimately turning the entire county Republican. Ron then placed the Lake County Republican Headquarters directly across from the old courthouse as a reminder to those in office to stay true to their promises, or risk being ousted in the same manor they had been put in.
